How to Choose the Right Electric Lawn Mower
In order to have a good user experience with you new electric mower, pick the ideal mower for your situation.
Which electric mower should you buy?
Here are our recommendations when choosing an electric lawn mower:
- Consider a corded electric if you don't mind dragging the cord, such as the LawnMaster corded 15-Inch 11AMP, which is bagless and has mulching. Don't forget to pickup an extension cord, though!
-
Consider a push electric mower (not self propelled) and treat mowing as a semi-workout.
Reason being, the battery lasts longer, as it doesn't expend energy on self-propulsion, it focuses on spinning the blade.
Pro tip: Choose a mower that isn't too heavy. The Litheli 20V 13-inch mower is just 20 lbs! -
Get an electric mower with removable, non-integrated batteries. That way, you can have extra backup batteries charging ready to be changed out as needed. For example, EGO platform offers batteries that are compatible with 90+ of their various tools.
For volts, amp-hours, watt-hours, and a practical two-battery workflow, see battery math for electric mowers. -
In order to have cross-compatible batteries with your other lawn tools, plan your purchase in advance, and get your electric mower and other lawn tools on the same brand and voltage platform, so that swapping them out is no big deal.
Generally, a 40V battery will not be compatible with a 60V electric tool, even if they are the same brand.
For example, Ryobi makes a leaf blower, trimmer, and lawn mower on a 40V lithium battery platform, so you'd be able to use the same battery for all three of those tools.
